Think of the LYMPHATIC SYSTEM as having the three main roles of Fluid Management, Immune Defense, and Waste Removal. The LYMPH being the clear fluid that carries waste and immune cells, the LYMPH VESSELS being the network that carry lymph away from the tissues, and the LYMPH NODES being filters that act as security checkpoints.
  • This Technique uses very light, rhythmic skin-stretching movements that follow specific anatomical pathways. It requires no lubricants, oils, or gels so the skin can be properly gripped.
  • These wave-like strokes stimulate the lymph vessels located just under the skin, thereby manually pumping any stagnant fluid toward the lymph nodes where toxins, bacteria and waste are then filtered out and neutralized.
  • It addresses the lymphatic system, which unlike the heart has no pump, so it relies entirely on muscle movement, deep breathing and manual stimulation like manual lymph drainage to move through its vessels.
  • Benefits include reduced swelling, an increase in post-surgical healing, lymphedema management, reduced inflammation, detoxification, and a boost in immunity.
You may feel a sense of lightness, relaxation, increased energy, and experience reduced puffiness or swelling.
* Please Note that while MLD is incredibly gentle, it isn't for everyone, so notifying your therapist of both previous and current health conditions is crucial. Techniques will be avoided and/or monitored, sometimes requiring a doctor's note, in cases of: Acute Infections, Congestive Heart Failure, Blood Clots, Kidney Failure, Active Malignancy, Asthma, Thyroid Dysfunction (head/neck region), Low Blood Pressure, Carotid Sinus Hypersensitivity, Open Wounds, Radiation/Sunburn, and Pregnancy/Menstruation (abdominal region).

While people often use these terms Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Lymphatic Massage interchangeably,

there is a distinct difference in their technique, intent, and intensity.
